My name is Danielle. I write songs about things I feel and things I
wonder what it would be like to feel. I write about things I know and
things I don’t know. I write these songs using my astonishing wit and
candor and through the help of wikipedia, and other untrustworthy
internet sources.
My influences include Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell,
Death Cab for Cutie, and Joanna Newsom. I love the voice of Peggy
Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and Blossom Dearie. Also, I listened to a lot of
boy bands in middle school…and high school and a little in college. I
am influenced most, by words and language and the challenge of using
them in new and different ways.
Born in Nebraska and living in Colorado since 2000, I was always
active in choir, band and orchestra through school. I had and
continue to have supportive and musical parents. I have a notebook
full of songs from sixth grade, so I have proof that I’ve been writing
songs for at least that long. I taught myself to play guitar in high
school and the ukulele in the summer of 2007 after my friend, Brandon,
gave it to me as a gift. I got my first true experience of performing
when I played violin and sang in the band Backdraft: the Musical,
which I liked to call, Awesome: the Phenomenon. Although I’ve been
playing and writing for most of my life, I’ve only had the guts to
play my own songs out in public since 2006.
One lucky day in December, 2008, I had a video featured on youtube’s
homepage. Since then, listeners from all over the world have watched
and commented on my videos and songs. It’s made a lot of things
possible for me, especially the opportunity to play my songs around
the country and have an audience of people who seem ready and willing
to listen.
I am pursuing music full time and letting it take me where it wants
to. I’d love to be everywhere and do everything. Hopefully, I’ll
continue to get the chance to write music, play music and travel with
music. I’ll come to your town next. We can hang out. I’ll bring my
*Ultimate Boy Band Mix 1999*.
